What We Believe.

Our Beliefs.

At Downtown Church, we believe faith isn’t just about rules. It’s about a real relationship with God. Whether you’ve been in church your whole life or you’ve never stepped through the doors, you belong here. We’re a family of everyday people who have experienced the life changing power of Jesus, and we want others to know that same hope. Everything we believe is rooted in the Bible, lived out in love, and fueled by our mission: Love God, Love People. Serve God, Serve People.

Our Beliefs Downtown Church in Battle Creek, MI

1. The Bible

We believe the Bible is the infallible Word of God and serves as our ultimate guide for salvation and Christian living.

(2 Timothy 3:15-17)

2. God

There is only one God, who has revealed Himself as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ is God in the flesh-fully divine and fully human. (Deuteronomy 6:4; Ephesians 4:4-6; Colossians 2:9; 1 Timothy 3:16)

3. Sin and Salvation

Everyone has sinned and needs salvation. This salvation comes by grace through faith in the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ. (Romans 3:23-25; 6:23; Ephesians 2:8- 9)

4. The Gospel

The gospel is the good news: Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and rose again. We respond to this gospel through repentance (turning from sin), baptism in the name of Jesus Christ (symbolizing burial), and receiving the Holy Spirit—evidenced by speaking in tongues (symbolizing resurrection). (1 Corinthians 15:1-4; Acts 2:4, 37-39; Romans 6:3-4; 2 Thessalonians 1:8; 1 Peter 4:17)

5. Christian Living

As followers of Christ, we are called to love God and others, lead a holy life both inwardly and outwardly, and worship joyfully. The supernatural gifts of the Holy Spirit—such as healing—are still active in the church today. (Mark 12:28-31; 2 Corinthians 7:1; Hebrews 12:14; 1 Corinthians 12:8-10)

6. The Future

We believe Jesus Christ will return and gather His church to Himself. Eventually, there will be a final resurrection and final judgment: the righteous will receive eternal life, and the unrighteous will face eternal death. (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; Revelation 20:11-15)
